Mogadishu receives heavy rains for last 24 hours
Egyesület - Hírek
Mogadishu and suburbs have received  heavy rains which  blocked the ordinary Mogadishu traffic, while some main roads are full of water. Buses  doubled fair due to lack of transport while the demand is very high. The fair of public transport has jubmed to Sh.So 7000 to ,Sh.so 8,000 while previous was  Sh.s 4000 to Sh.s 5000.

People who have fled the drought in Somalia to camps near the capital Mogadishu have now been hit by days of heavy rain.
Aid workers say five people, including three children, had died of exposure. And  people could not find shelter from the cold rain.
The victims have been displaced by a drought that has devastated large parts of the Horn of Africa.
The  rains are likely to kill  scores of woman and children due to over-exposure. Aid agencies working with limited supplies and support in Mogadishu have called the situation “a vision of hell”.

Refugee camps on the outskirts of the city do not have enough tents to offer shelter to everyone, leaving many to die in the mud. There are reports of malnourished bodies lying in the rain, dead mothers still holding their babies.

The situation is at risk of becoming the greatest humanitarian crisis of our time across the Horn of Africa.

It is estimated that 10 million people across the region are at risk of starvation, the UN has not yet described the situation as a famine, but that classification is sure to come in the days or weeks ahead. It is speculated that the rains may not come across the region until September.

Some 3,000 people flee each day for neighbouring countries such as Ethiopia and Kenya which are struggling to cope.
